Description

highlighting text is really hard like in word when you select text and adjust any of the formatting font underline you name it the selection remains but if you dare start those adjustments by adding a text highlight color it deselects also you can only choose from 15 colors speaking of text selection why does it feel so inaccurate and so difficult all of the time i constantly feel like i'm diffusing a bomb because of the sheer amount of precision needed one wrong move and i've selected ah word's bad for this too if you're too fast with the mouse you select the inverse of what you're aiming for maybe you should just use a pen and paper

This short centers on the common pain of selecting and highlighting text on Apple devices, contrasting it with how it feels on other platforms and recalling past conveniences like 3D Touch. The creator begins by describing how difficult it is to highlight text while editing, noting that changing formatting or applying a highlight causes the selection to disappear or behave inconsistently. They point out the limitation of color options for highlights, mentioning only 15 available colors, which adds to the frustration. The speaker recalls the precision required to select a single word, highlighting the tension between fast mouse movements and accidental over-selecting, which spoils the intended selection. The overall tone blends humor with a critique of the user experience, suggesting that the task of text selection on certain devices feels like defusing a bomb due to the fragile control needed. The conclusion leans into a pragmatic, almost nostalgic suggestion that perhaps a pen and paper would be easier in some scenarios, underscoring a broader frustration with modern text selection conventions across platforms.
