The Maingear Pulse 14 is one of the most compact gaming machines I've ever seen. It can be loaded up with a Core i7 quad core, a GTX 760M, and up to two SSDs in RAID 0 AND a 2.5" hard drive. All of that while remaining quite slim. I think the only big change I'd make would be to add a non-TN panel option. The Intel booth at PAX Prime 2013 showcases the Maingear Pulse 14, a compact gaming notebook that blends traditional DIY computer customization with a ready-made laptop form factor. The device centers on a quad-core 4702 CPU within a 35 watt TDP, paired with a GTX 760M graphics solution, delivering a substantial performance uplift over previous mobile GPUs while preserving a slim profile. The notebook keeps a broad set of I/O options, including a power input, ventilation, HDMI, VGA, gigabit Ethernet, and multiple USB ports on the left side, plus a USB 2.0 port, card reader, and headset jack on the right, making it a versatile portable rig for gamers on the go. Display resolution is listed at 1600 by 900, with potential higher options teased for future revisions, while the keyboard remains a chiclet style and not backlit, which is a trade-off for the slim design. A standout feature is the highly flexible storage configuration: the Pulse 14 accepts a 2.5-inch drive and two M.2/MSATA SSDs, enabling boot SSDs and additional storage in a compact chassis, illustrating Maingear’s DIY heritage adapted for a notebook. Pricing is aggressively set starting at 12,249, and premium paint work is available as a back panel finish through Maingear’s own shop, as demonstrated with a painted accessory (a Logitech mouse) to match the notebook’s finish. Overall, the Pulse 14 represents a compact, configurable gaming notebook that emphasizes performance per watt, customization, and the ability to tailor storage and aesthetics while staying visually sleek at a trade show presentation.
