The Nintendo Wii-U was not what made me tired. And I'm sorry about that! We ended up filming this very early in the morning before I started to prep for the WAN show and that resulted in a very tired slick! Hopefully you enjoy it either way, I believe there are reasons to love and to hate the Wii-U and while I may feel a little of both I am happy with it overall so far. 3:28 Jump to general thoughts and conclusions Forum discussion: linustechtips.com Sponsor link: linustechtips.com Pricing & discussion: linustechtips.com Join our community forum: bit.ly twitter.com @LinusTech Intro Screen Music Credit: Adhesive Wombat -

The video begins by correcting a major misconception about the Wii U, emphasizing that the Wii U gamepad is not the console itself and that the system is a distinct platform separate from the traditional Wii. It explains that many Wii accessories and cables remain compatible, such as the Wii sensor bar, the component cable, and even Wii controllers, while recommending the HDMI connection for the best experience. The creator highlights features like off-TV play, which allows gaming on the gamepad while the TV is in use, and the ability to expand storage through USB devices for downloaded games, saved data, and Miis. He also notes practical limitations, including that not all Wii games upscale to HD and that the gamepad cannot be used for Wii games without a Wii, though many titles support up to six players across different modes. A detailed example is given with Super Mario Bros U, illustrating how a fifth player can interact with the environment in boost mode, which can increase the game's difficulty and engagement for family gaming sessions. The narrative stresses that hardware power is not the focus for the Wii U, but rather Nintendo exclusives and unique features like gamepad interaction, family-friendly experiences, and potential future titles such as Mario Kart 8 and Zelda-based projects. The discussion closes with reflections on Nintendo’s ecosystem, price considerations, and the idea that the Wii U occupies a distinctive position between traditional consoles and PC gaming, inviting viewer opinions on Nintendo’s strategy and the video format itself.
