Description

Since Call of Duty: Black Ops was just released, I thought I'd take some time to throw it at the latest and greatest graphics cards from AMD and NVIDIA. I'm using FRAPS to do a run through of the first 5 minutes of the game and I'll be recording the results for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy :)

AI OverviewDefault language

This video from Linus Tech Tips performs a hands-on benchmarking session of Call of Duty: Black Ops across multiple high-end graphics configurations. The host explains the testing setup, including the GPUs tested: GTX 580 in SLI, GTX 480, GTX 460 SLI, and Radeon HD 5870 in Crossfire, all measured against a single 2560 by 1600 display with maxed details. He describes the test methodology, using FRAPS to capture about five minutes of gameplay from a controlled campaign segment to generate average frame rates, and emphasizes the importance of consistency across runs. The narration covers the test platform specifics, such as an overclocked Core i7 875K at 3.81 GHz, 4 GB RAM, and a robust power supply, to ensure accurate comparisons. The video then transitions to performance results, noting that in standard 2D gameplay there is little differentiation between the GPUs because the CPU becomes the limiting factor rather than the graphics hardware. An additional stereoscopic 3D test on a second monitor is announced, with the caveat that ATI cards are not suitable for the 3D setup in Black Ops, and that Nvidia GPUs may show more pronounced differences under 3D load. The host concludes with an expectation that the data will reveal how well each configuration handles both normal and 3D gameplay, and invites viewers to subscribe for more benchmarks and future results.
