Description

The 7G has been a staple for professional gamers for a long time, but that doesn't prevent me from taking a "first look" at it. It's not a real first look, mind you, because I've used this keyboard extensively in the past (and I love it), but it's a first look for you all, so I'll go ahead and call it that.

The video presents an in-depth unboxing and first-look overview of the SteelSeries 7G mechanical gaming keyboard. Linus walks through the box contents, noting the included PS2-to-USB adapter, a USB hub, a built-in microphone and headset passthrough, and the substantial braided 2-meter cable. He highlights the keyboard’s build quality, including a metal inner chassis, gold-plated connectors, and a design that allows all keys to be pressed simultaneously. He discusses the quieter, non-click mechanical switches compared with traditional clicky keyboards, and emphasizes features like the removed Windows key for gaming, the dedicated SteelSeries function key for media controls, and the full-sized numeric keypad and backspace layout. A large portion of the talk centers on user experience details, such as the exceptionally comfortable wrist rest, the layout, and practical considerations like the slightly shortened backspace, as well as the unboxing experience itself and Linus’ personal bias toward SteelSeries products. Overall, the video balances technical specs with hands-on impressions, acknowledging the keyboard’s premium price while underscoring its durability and gamer-oriented features that have kept it relevant among high-end peripherals. The wrap-up reinforces Linus’ enthusiasm for the 7G, while also noting some trade-offs such as limited backlighting and the physical heft that comes with a robust build.
