Check if your car was damaged with Car Vertical - 10% off here carvertical.com Im now preparing my cheap 2015 range rover vogue for the road, so i can then drive it to a bodyshop for paint and some other body work. But first it needs to pass an MOT test. But theres plenty of warning lights still on the dashboard preventing the car from passing, including the airbag light. Alongside the repairs ive also thrown in some modifications and upgrades along the way to complete the facelift look from a 2015 range rover to a 2018 SVO range rover.

The video opens with the host detailing the continuing project of reviving a cheap 2015 Range Rover Vogue in the UK, focusing on getting it road legal again and transitioning the look toward a 2018 SVAutobiography/upgrade aesthetic. The initial hurdle is a persistent airbag fault after a prior interior replacement, with the engine management showing crash event storage full and an airbag control module needing removal and reset. The host uses an advanced scanner to read fault codes, clears some, and contemplates the necessity of sourcing a new airbag ECU or proper coding to the vehicle to satisfy MOT requirements. Alongside the diagnostic work, he introduces cosmetic upgrades like upgrading the rear lights and later the side steps, emphasizing how these touches affect the car’s width, stance, and practicality. The installation of the 2018 rear lights proves more complex than expected due to wiring pinouts changing between model years, prompting a careful pin-by-pin reconfiguration after labeling the wires and removing a red tab to access the connectors. The narrative then shifts to bodywork and safety enhancements, including windscreen replacement and dent removal planning with a paintless dent technician, Rob, before the car makes it to a body shop for final cosmetic refinements. Throughout, the host interleaves maintenance tasks such as washer jet refresh, TPMS arch lining transmitters, and a full change of essential fluids and filters, underscoring the transitional phase from a crash-damaged chassis toward a robust, road-ready Range Rover. The tone remains pragmatic and collaborative, with the host showing both triumphs and missteps, such as discovering a leak in the washer tank and discovering the correct 2018 washer jets. The video closes with a push toward finishing touches, including trim chroming decisions and dechroming to a black aesthetic, sealing a future paint job and bodywork plan, while balancing time between mechanical fixes, cosmetic upgrades, and the looming MOT. Viewers are teased with the prospect of completing the build and sharing further progress in subsequent episodes, as the host emphasizes the multi-step journey from diagnosis to road readiness and final detailing. The overall arc demonstrates a methodical, hands-on restoration approach that blends troubleshooting, part swapping, and stylistic upgrades to transform a subvariety Range Rover into a more contemporary, appealing vehicle, with the end goal of a safe, compliant, and visually striking SUV ready for the road and a body shop visit.

Questions answered

What is the main obstacle to passing the MOT for the Range Rover, and how is it addressed?
The main obstacle is an airbag fault and a crash event memory issue in the airbag ECU. The host attempts to clear fault codes with a code reader, considers removing and reprogramming the ECU, and plans to reset or replace the ECU to satisfy MOT requirements.
Why were the 2018 rear lights not a plug-and-play upgrade, and how was this resolved?
The 2018 rear light connectors use a different pin arrangement than the 2015 model. The host labels the wires, removes a red locking tab, and rearranges the wiring so the 2015 harness fits the 2018 assembly, then tests both sides to confirm proper operation.
What cosmetic upgrades were pursued besides the mechanical work, and what was their effect?
Cosmetic upgrades included installing side steps to widen the stance and improve practicality, replacing the rear lights for a more modern look, dechroming trim to black, and planning paint and body work. These changes gave the vehicle a more aggressive, contemporary appearance.
