Notes
This video documents the ongoing restoration and modification of a BMW E46 M3 that Mat Armstrong previously found abandoned beside a racetrack. The host begins by outlining the major tasks remaining, including interior assembly, rear subframe refurbishment, and reinstallation of a cracked boot floor, which now benefits from strengthening plates. He explains that the car has not been on the road since 2007 and shares the plan to reassemble the rear subframe, install a new exhaust, and return the car to roadworthy condition. The narrative is built around careful, methodical steps: removing and replacing worn rear subframe bushes with PowerFlex units, cleaning and reinstalling fuel lines, reassembling the subframe, and re-securing the drivetrain and exhaust components. Throughout, the video emphasizes the moral of patience when working on classic cars, acknowledging that sandblasting and full underbody restoration would be ideal but often impractical due to resource constraints. The host also interweaves product sponsorships and partner services, such as CarVertical for vehicle history checks and a Scorpion exhaust system, while inviting viewer input on decisions like suspension upgrades and braking components. By the end of the excerpt, the exhaust is installed, the diffuser temporarily fitted, fuel is loaded, and the car is briefly started to assess the new performance characteristics, with a clear sense of both progress and remaining challenges. The video closes with a balanced assessment of wins and potential costs, reinforcing that the project is a long-term, iterative rebuild rather than a quick fix.
