Description
This mouse pad actually really impressed me. I've been using it for a few days as of uploading this video and it's definitely a worthy replacement for my trusty QCK . Bravo Steelseries. It's a little bit faster than what I'm used to, but the comfort that I love from cloth is still there!
The video opens with Linus introducing the SteelSeries 5L gaming mouse pad, highlighting his long-standing interest in trying this hybrid pad that combines hard and soft materials for a unique gliding experience. He explains the 5L as composed of multiple layers: a rubber base to prevent slipping, a hard plastic core to give rigidity, a soft poly isoprene layer for glide, and a cloth top with a thin plastic coating to preserve the feel of cloth while improving durability. Linus contrasts the 5L with cloth pads he previously preferred, noting that cloth offers comfort and friction but wears out over time, whereas the 5L aims to deliver similar cloth-like feel with added durability and a more stable surface. He proceeds to unbox the pad, finds basic accessories including a SteelSeries product guide and a sticker, and a small card describing the bottom rubber texture. He showcases the pad’s cross-sectional build, pointing out the distinct layers and how the combination should influence both movement and longevity. After inspecting the packaging and materials, Linus commits to testing the pad in future gameplay segments and plans to update the video with hands-on impressions and potential refinements based on extensive use. He wraps up by inviting viewers to visit his blog, LinusTechTips.com, for more information. The overall takeaway is that the 5L is presented as a durability-forward alternative to traditional cloth pads that still aims to preserve a favorable cloth-like glide, with initial impressions leaning toward intrigue and expectation for real-world performance.
