I got as far as replacing the Rod Bearings, which have actually been replaced by a BMW recall when the car had 18k miles on the clock. 100,000 miles later i thought it was a good idea to replace them again, only issue is that ive never done it before and if i make a slight mistake it could cause some serious engine failure! Lets hope i get this right and the engine starts!

Notes
This video documents the first startup of an abandoned E46 BMW M3 after a substantial disassembly and rebuild. The creator starts by detailing the meticulous process of replacing bottom end rod bearings, highlighting the critical torque settings and the risk of engine failure if not performed correctly. He discusses the decision to replace the lower engine mounts with upgraded Vibra Techs, the installation of a new steering rack, and the resealing of the sump, all as part of a larger plan to bring the car back to a reliable, road-ready state. Throughout, there is a strong emphasis on methodical restoration, sourcing parts from reputable suppliers, and reassembling key systems such as the radiator, oil cooler, power steering, and cooling components before attempting to start the engine. The moment of truth arrives as the engine fires up, and the host channels a mix of relief and excitement, framing it as a milestone in his ongoing project to push his skills and persistence beyond comfort zones. The video closes with a progress update, acknowledging that more work remains but celebrating the sense of achievement and the forward momentum of the build, while inviting viewers to follow along for future episodes and merch opportunities.

- Which components were upgraded or replaced to improve reliability during the rebuild?
- Upgrades included new lower engine mounts, a brand new power steering rack, improved steering linkage, an updated oil seal/gasket setup for the sump, and new cooling and radiator assemblies.
- What milestone marks the video's turning point?
- The engine's first startup after the rebuild marks a major milestone, confirming that the assembled engine can run smoothly and is a key validation of the work done.
