Description
This will be a series of videos (depending on the level of interest) about my new system upgrade. Going to bring you guys along for the steps of tearing down my old build, planning the new one and then building it. I'll be lucky to be done within a month. So time consuming... Good thing I only do it about once per year these days.
Part 1 of Linus Tech Tips' Personal Rig Update from 2012 documents the early stage of a large upgrade to Linus's personal gaming rig. The video opens with a broad hardware overview of the existing system, noting a Silverstone TJ07 case, a dual-radiator front setup, an overclocked CPU and multiple GPUs, a dedicated RAID card, and a sizeable SSD array. He explains the aim of the series: to tear down the old build, plan the new configuration, and then begin assembling the upgraded machine. Throughout the first segment, he calls out the cooling strategy, including antimicrobial water loop components and a preference for a near-silent operation achieved with the T Balancer for fan control. The host discusses anticipated changes such as upgrading to an XFX 1000W Platinum PSU with hybrid fan control, introducing silver compression fittings, and transitioning to an LGA 2011 motherboard with a new RAM configuration, all while debating whether to retain copper heatsinks or switch to a themed memory kit. By the time he outlines the core goals, he highlights a few potential bottlenecks, like limited SATA connections on the new PSU and the plan to possibly use adapters if necessary, setting expectations for improved performance and cleaner aesthetics once the upgrade is complete. The video trailer ends with a lighthearted note about the cat in the frame and a hint that in-progress updates may appear depending on audience demand, signaling the collaborative nature of this build log and setting up a longer, multi-part project.
