Check if your car was damaged with Car Vertical - 10% off here carvertical.com I bought a cheap BMW M5 Competition F90 from a previous mechanic after he noticed some structural damage that needed a specialist to fix. I decided to fix it myself but now im rebuilding it im starting to notice some of the smaller parts being more expensive than the bigger parts. If i can find a way to cheat BMW's pricing the build could still be worth the price.

AI OverviewDefault language

The video begins with an update on the BMW M5 Competition rebuild after the engine has been removed, the structural damage addressed, and the engine reinstalled. Despite initial optimism, the car remains stuck on the ramp because the brakes do not bleed properly and the gears refuse to engage, leaving the vehicle in park. The host describes using a special BMW bleeding procedure via a diagnostic tool and a pressure bleed setup, which slowly yields air from the ABS lines and large fuel lines, while the crew watches for any improvement in pedal feel. A breakthrough occurs when a solid brake pedal appears and the car finally shifts into gear, signaling that the braking system has been flushed correctly and that the rebuild can continue. The episode then pivots to tackling front-end work, including radiator fitment, wiring loom routing, and replacing damaged coolant hoses, with the plan to reuse the original charge coolers until new ones arrive. Throughout, the host notes the need to refill gear oil and to prepare the front end for mounting, which sets the stage for the next phase of the build and the reassembly of the remaining components.

Questions answered

What was the critical breakthrough that allowed the BMW M5 rebuild to move forward?
The breakthrough was achieving a solid brake pedal after performing a BMW-specific brake bleeding procedure with a pressure bleeder and diagnostic tool, which then allowed the car to go into gear.
Why were the parts costs a concern in this rebuild, and what strategy was discussed?
Parts costs were high, especially for sensors and radar-related components in the bumper; the host considered using second-hand parts or alternative sourcing to keep the build under budget, while acknowledging potential calibration and coding needs.
What exhaust system was chosen and why is it notable?
A full Remus exhaust system was chosen to replace the stock setup, with emphasis on reducing the center silencer and maintaining proper fitment, aiming for a louder, more aggressive sound that complements the V8 engine.
What future work was identified as essential before driving the car regularly?
Calibrating and possibly replacing or programming radar and driver-assistance sensors, refilling and bleeding fluids, and completing the wiring looms and trim work to ensure safety and reliability.
