Description
This isn't the first time I've had a look at Kingston's SSDnow series of drives, but it IS the first time they've sent me an evaluation unit. It's also the first time I've had a look at their notebook upgrade kit. Stay tuned because I will be using their software to transfer my current notebook over to an SSD.
The video opens with Linus revealing a new personal workspace as he starts an unboxing of the Kingston SSDnow V Series 128GB notebook upgrade kit. He explains that this is an evaluation unit and walks through the packaging, noting the key claim that the 128GB Kingston SSDnow V Series Gen 2 can deliver up to 200 MB/s read and 160 MB/s write performance. Linus highlights what makes this package a notebook upgrade kit: an external 2.5 inch drive enclosure, a USB cloning cable, and Kingston's cloning software so a user can migrate an existing laptop drive onto the new SSD. He shows the outer sleeve and discusses the included components, including a MOX 2 SATA power adapter and a simple external enclosure that slides the SSD in and clips shut, making the assembly approachable for a laptop upgrade. Throughout, he compares the V Series to its V+ counterpart, noting that this model is slightly slower but still performs as a fast SSD suitable for notebook upgrades. The tone is practical and instructional, emphasizing how easy the cloning process is and how the kit simplifies migration of data from an existing drive to the new Kingston SSD. By the end of the first segment, Linus demonstrates the basic installation steps and prepares the audience for a hands-on evaluation of the cloning workflow.
