Head to squarespace.com to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code MATARMSTRONG I found this abandoned Manual Lamborghini Murcielago and risked it all to buy it and rebuild it. We found that the person who rebuilt the V12 engine before did a terrible job and now its up to me to rebuild it again. I have no experience with Lamborghni V12 engines but Im willing to learn. To save cost we are trying to avoid the main dealer by cross referencing expensive parts to other cars like Ferraris.

Notes
The video follows a determined rebuilding project of an abandoned manual Lamborghini Murciélago, continuing from a prior attempt that left the engine partially dismantled and in questionable condition. The host explains the dramatic issues uncovered, including an eight cam cap error, loose head bolts, broken piston rings, and missing parts, all of which set the stage for a methodical salvage and rebuild effort. The team begins by sourcing parts directly from Lamborghini, while also cross referencing components from other high end brands to keep costs in check. They discover that the instrument cluster had its own set of problems, with a damaged circuit board and burnt resistors, which were repaired with help from a relative. Despite the numerous negatives, the video emphasizes positive signs such as certain valve seals appearing new and the possibility of turning the engine around with careful rebuilding. The narrative then shifts to a hands-on deep dive on cylinder and valve clearance, where they measure gaps with a feeler gauge and map them to a calculation chart to determine the correct shim sizes for correct cam-to-valve clearance, a critical step for reliable engine operation. The host highlights the budget realities of high end parts, noting Lamborghini’s high prices for shims and the opportunity to source cheaper equivalents from Ferrari, while also paying homage to the collaboration with skilled family members. The video also introduces a sponsor moment for Squarespace, drawing a parallel between building a car and building a website, and underscores the broader theme that patient, careful work can realize a long cherished dream even when starting from a challenging baseline. By the end of the segment, the participants have assembled the lower block with seals and prepared the pistons, while acknowledging the serious task of ensuring every piston ring is correctly oriented and installed, given the high cost of those parts and the potential consequences of a mistake. The video closes with a reflective commitment to continue the rebuild with the goal of eventually starting the V12 and hearing it roar, underscoring the emotional value of completing a dream with family involvement and persistence.

Questions answered
- What issue did the previous engine rebuild have, and how is this video addressing it?
- The prior rebuild had incorrect cam cap, loose head bolts, broken piston rings, and missing parts. This video documents a thorough re-evaluation and rebuilding process, including resealing, measuring valve clearances, sourcing affordable parts, and reassembling the engine with careful attention to details to ensure proper operation.
- How are valve clearances determined and adjusted in this build?
- Valve clearances are measured with a feeler gauge between the cam lobes and the valve lifters, with the target gaps specified for intake and exhaust sides. Shims of various thicknesses are selected to achieve the correct 0.35 mm intake and 0.5 mm exhaust clearances, ensuring the cam timing and valve operation are correct.
