Description

This is one of the coolest memory products I've ever encountered. A few companies have tried to do high end liquid cooled memory, but they always make weird mistakes. The Copperhead cooler uses industry standard compatible threads for fittings and supports a variety of motherboards. Excellent design :)

In the opening portion of this Linus Tech Tips video, Linus introduces the Mushkin Copperhead memory kit, highlighting that the package arrives in three boxes and that the centerpiece is a liquid cooling water block designed for RAM. He explains that the kit is DDR3 1600 rather than the higher-end 2133 or beyond, choosing a modest memory configuration of 2x4 GB for a total of 16 GB to support an upcoming ultimate build guide. He discusses the rationale behind selecting RAM that can run at higher frequencies with more sticks installed, noting that this setup aims to maximize capacity and stability for future overclocking. The unboxing sequence emphasizes the physical layout: an advanced water-cooling block, spacers with O-rings, and the ability to attach standard G1/4 fittings, demonstrating how the Copperhead block can accommodate different RAM spacing and motherboard configurations. Linus walks through the assembly concept, including applying thermal interface material and mounting the water block over the RAM to enable water cooling, with the message that this design supports triple-channel or quad-channel memory layouts. He also situates the project within his ongoing “ultimate machine” series and invites viewers to stay tuned for the full build, while encouraging subscriptions for more unboxings, reviews, and tech videos.

Questions answered

What is the Mushkin Copperhead RAM and what makes its cooling system unique?
The Mushkin Copperhead RAM is a DDR3 memory kit with a dedicated water block. The cooling system uses spacers with O-rings, a copper water block, and standard fittings, allowing RAM modules to be cooled via liquid cooling while accommodating different RAM spacing and motherboard layouts.
Why did Linus choose DDR3 1600 with 16 GB for this build instead of higher frequency kits?
Linus chose 16 GB total capacity to maximize future overclocking potential and stability when using more memory sticks. Higher capacity with slightly lower frequency can be easier to stabilize and still support high-end performance in the intended ultimate machine build.
