The E46 was taken off the road for multiple reasons and alot of them are common problems which all e46 BMW's suffer from. This E46 M3 is a manual in a Laguna Seca Blue which is really desirable. I think the BMW will be absolutely mint once ive restored it but theres alot to do before its back on the road. Its alot worse than i thought!

The video follows Mat Armstrong as he documents the ambitious restoration journey of an abandoned E46 BMW M3 found at a racetrack. At the start, the car appears reasonably tidy from a distance, but a closer look reveals a long list of mechanical and structural issues that will need attention. Mat walks through the initial assessment, noting that the interior is heavily worn and the underbody shows signs of long-term wear and track usage. He demonstrates early improvements such as replacing headlight lenses, grille, badge, wheels, and tires, and highlights significant mechanical upgrades including rod bearing work, steering rack replacement, and engine mount adjustments. He sets realistic expectations about the scope of the project, acknowledging that a full restoration is far from complete and will require substantial effort, parts, and time. The decision to tackle the bedrock problems first is clear, with particular emphasis on addressing the cracked boot floor that compromises safety and structural integrity, a well-known issue among E46 models. The narrative blends a mix of aspiration and practical constraint, as Mat explains the price considerations given the car’s condition and the formidable tasks ahead. The overarching goal is to bring the M3 back to driving condition while preserving the car’s character, even as the process reveals the depth of the required fixes and the iterative nature of a comprehensive rebuild.

He replaced rod bearings, the steering rack, engine mounts, headlight lenses, grille, badge, and refreshed wheels and tires.
