The Galaxy Gear from Samsung is a hot topic right now. I know there's no box in the video, but Samsung didn't bring one. In fact, they didn't have review samples of the gear yet for Canada either so I will definitely want to do a follow up once I have some more time to spend with it. The other notable thing about this video is the fact that it was shot on the Black Magic Cinema 2.5k camera, so try as you might, you won't find any artifacts or blockiness in the spots where we've punched in to give a closer look at the product. Pretty ballin' It's not my camera unfortunately though, so we can only use it when Edzel is feeling generous. The video provides a hands-on unboxing and overview of the Samsung Galaxy Gear, highlighting its hardware design, user interface, and practical usage scenarios. It begins by comparing the Gear to other smartwatches, noting its 1.68 inch AMOLED touchscreen, physical buttons, and the fact that unlike some rivals it emphasizes a tactile experience rather than a full touchscreen keyboard. The presenter discusses the charging cradle that uses micro USB, the 24 hour battery life estimate, and with a focus on comfort, he describes the orange strap and the option to swap out the band. He then demonstrates core features such as the built in microphone and speaker for hands free calls, the integrated camera for quick pictures and 15 second videos, and the quick activation of apps like SVoice through a double tap. The video emphasizes the Gear as a connected companion to Samsung devices, showing how notifications flow from the phone to the watch and how swiping interacts with different functions including camera, notifications, and the phone interface. A key theme is the balance between openness and ecosystem tightness, as the presenter contrasts the Gear with the Pebble and notes app support is currently limited to certain Samsung devices, with future compatibility expectations discussed. Finally, the presenter weighs price and value, mentioning the CAD price point over 300 dollars, potential bundles with devices like the Note 3, and his plan to revisit with more hands on time as software updates roll out, concluding with a call to subscribe for future updates and reviews.
