Description
So, it's been almost 2 years since Apple Vision Pro came out, and now we have Samsung's Vision Pro competitor, and maybe it was worth the wait. Because see, Apple's just refreshed the new Vision Pro, and turns out they addressed almost nothing that people were complaining about with the first one. They added an M5 chip and a new band. That's about it. So, while Vision Pro is still very heavy and uncomfortable to wear for a long time, Samsung's Galaxy XR headset is dramatically lighter and way better to wear for long sessions. And then while Vision Pro is still kind of lacking as far as content goes, the Samsung one comes out the box with Android, so it works with a ton of Android apps, and it has a YouTube app. Vision Pro still doesn't have a YouTube app. And then Vision Pro's AI features are still pretty much useless with the just little things like writing tools and image playground. Meanwhile, Samsung's runs Android XR, and the Gemini assistant can reorganize windows, launch you into apps and experiences, and literally see what you can see and answer questions about it. And Vision Pro still costs $3,500. Samsung's coming in at around half that, $1,799. So, if the Apple Vision Pro didn't convince you to buy a super premium VR headset, Samsung's hoping maybe this one will.
The video compares Apple Vision Pro with Samsung's Galaxy XR headset, noting that Apple refreshed the Vision Pro after about two years with minimal changes beyond an M5 chip and a new strap, while Samsung positions its XR headset as a lighter, more comfortable option for long sessions. The presenter emphasizes that Vision Pro remains heavy and uncomfortable for extended wear, whereas the Galaxy XR is dramatically lighter and easier to wear during longer use. On the software front, the Galaxy XR ships with Android and includes a YouTube app, giving it broad app compatibility, while Vision Pro is criticized for lacking a YouTube app and having limited content and weak AI features. The video highlights Gemini as a key differentiator for Samsung, capable of reorganizing windows, launching apps, and answering questions about what you see, compared to Vision Pro’s more limited AI tools like writing and image playground. Price is also a major factor, with Vision Pro priced at $3,500, versus Samsung’s around $1,799, positioning Samsung as a more affordable alternative for those seeking similar capabilities. The overall takeaway is that Samsung’s Galaxy XR may offer better value, more practical usability, and stronger out-of-the-box accessibility, while Vision Pro remains a premium option with limited content and a higher cost. The conclusion suggests that if Vision Pro didn’t persuade consumers, Samsung might with a more compelling package at a lower price point.
