My Audi R8 has major power loss, ive walnut blasted the carbon, cleaned the injectors and still it is under powered. I found a loose vacuum pipe which could be an issue and also a transmission fluid leak. Could this be the issue or is it something more sinister?

The video centers on diagnosing a dramatic power loss issue on a high performance Audi R8. It begins with the host detailing prior attempts to recover power, including walnut blasting the intake and cleaning injectors, which had not fully resolved the issue. An oil leak and a vacuum pipe problem are identified as potential culprits, and the car is scheduled for a diagnostic session at Re Performance in Swindon to source the root cause of the power shortfall. The team conducts a compression test and uses a borescope to inspect cylinder one, revealing a significantly lower compression reading and surface damage that could explain the power deficit. A direct inspection follows, linking a previously fitted vacuum exhaust valve line to a vacuum leak which could be contributing to the performance drop. The narrative then shifts to a live dyno session back at a workshop where Mallory Performance investigates the vacuum system and confirms that plugging the missing vacuum line dramatically improves power. The dyno results show a jump from the near 400 bhp range back to a strong level around 400 bhp, which marks a pivotal turn in the car’s diagnosis. The host discusses potential long term remedies, weighing three options: leave it and remap, remove and rebuild the engine, or install a more aggressive powertrain like a turbo or supercharger for a dramatic performance boost. The viewer is engaged with a call to action to vote on the preferred path, with the promise that community support could influence future upgrades, including a supercharged or turbocharged setup and further maintenance content.

Questions answered

What was identified as the initial cause of the power loss in the Audi R8?
The initial cause identified was a vacuum leak from a misrouted vacuum line connected to the exhaust valve system, which was found to be affecting engine performance.
What were the three proposed options to fix the engine and boost power?
Option 1 was to leave it as is and remap for a small gain; Option 2 involved removing the engine and rebuilding or replacing the block; Option 3 entailed installing a new engine with forced induction, either a turbocharger or a supercharger, to push power well beyond stock levels.
What happened on the dyno after correcting the vacuum issue?
After plugging in the vacuum line, the dyno run showed a substantial power increase, approaching 400 bhp, indicating that the vacuum issue was a major contributor to the earlier power loss.
